As pop music makes another transition music fans have to wonder who will be the trendsetters of the new era. Singing sensation Masumi is the essence of new girl power and pop music. Born in Japan, she was inspired early to make a move to the states to test the musical waters. In no time she recorded her demo and got the attention of some major industry tastemakers. The hard work and dedication to her craft is fast paying off.. Masumi is heating up the music scene and the Billboard charts. Her special blend of pop grooves, unique fashion and dance have built her a cult following across the global. Her music and songwriting crosses all bounds with piano, hard pop beats and mellow tracks Masumi is the one to watch...

MahoganyGirl: How has the transition from Japan to California been for you?
Masumi: I'm very happy to be in California. Living in America was always my long time dream.

MG: We know you wanted to follow your musical dream but was it hard for you to leave Japan?
M: It wasn't so hard because I never thought that I would live in Japan forever. Sometimes I miss my family and friends but we email and talk on the phone.

MG: What was going through your mind when you completed your demo.. Did you think you would connect with a great producer so quickly?
M: I was hoping that I could get any chance to work as a musician. I didn't think I would work with Trevor Lawrence!! I couldn't imagine at all!! I know I am very very lucky!!

MG: You're music has a girl power Gwen Stefani, Fergie feel.. Is that a proper comparison?
M: I'm glad to hear that!! Thank you!! I love both of them.

MG: You are very focused on your stage presence. Lots of dancing and fun during your shows. Do you love dance?
M: Yes, I do!! I love dancing. I think it's very important to have good dancers because they are a part of my own expression. I wanna tell the story of my songs to the audience, so the dancers should be a part of the songs too.

MG: Your song "Slow Down..." reached #8 on the billboard charts.. Were you excited?
M: I still can not believe that my song was in the billboard charts and the peak position was #4!! I was so happy when I heard that big news!!

MG: Are you planning a new album?
M: I am still promoting my first album " Baby you" and going to tour in the US and Japan. I already started to work on the new album!! It will have more dance songs!!

MG: Girly question, where do you like to shop?
M: I like the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica.

MG: Thought provoking question, How does it feel to be the first true Japan breed artist to crossover in America?
M: I'm glad to hear that, but I never looked at it that way. I'm very happy to deliver my songs to both of the countries and I want to share my songs all over the world!!
